Africa

It was amidst South Africa air that I was born. Though I was raised amongst the hills of New Zealand and currently reside under the Australian sun, Africa continues to run in my blood. Let me show you a snippet of its power...

Quotes

Some people say pretty deep stuff...

"Accomplishments have no colour."                                                                                      - Barbara Kruger
"If I discover within myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world."
- C.S. Lewis

" Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart."
- Unknown

"It does a person far less harm to suffer injustice than to commit it. We should pity the perpetrator of injustice, not the victim of injustice."
- Socrates

Fashion

As the teenage female that I am, it is no wonder that I have a passion for fashion. I receive much of my inspiration from fashion blog http://www.fashiontoast.com/ . I shall reveal some of its splendour now...

Mumford & Sons

Just like everybody else living in the 21st Century, I adore Mumford & Sons. They make banjos look cool! I have decided to quote some of my most-loved of their lyrics...

"And now my heart stumbles on things I don't know
My weakness I feel I must finally show
Lend me your hand and we'll conquer them all
But lend me your heart and I'll just let you fall
Lend me your eyes I can change what you see
But your soul you must keep, totally free
In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love, you invest your life
You were made to meet your maker"

"I can see widows and orphans through my tears
I know my call despite my faults
And despite my growing fears
But I will hold on hope
And I won't let you choke
And I'll find strength in pain
And I will change my ways
I'll know my name as it's called again
Cause I need freedom now
And I need to know how
To live my life as it's meant to be"

The Bible

Isaiah 8:13 - Fear God
The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy,
he is the one you are to fear,
he is the one you are to dread,
and he will be a sanctuary;

Del Kathryn Barton

Del Kathryn Barton is by far my most loved artist in the world...and she's Australian! She won the Archibald Prize for portraiture in 2008 and continues to dazzle me daily. While every single peice of artwork she has ever created amazes my eyes, I have chosen two to share with you:

Frankenstein, Mary Shelly

For the first time in all my schooling years I have been handed a book that I could effortlessy read. Though Mary Shelly writes with such sophistication that I required the aid of a dictionary whilst reading most of Frankeinstein, I label the novel as an "effortless" read because its thrilling beauty, plotline and soul kept me constantly entertained and moved - something many texts fail to do. While I am in love with the entire book, I shall list some of the most memorable, moving, magical quotes to reveal the wonderfulness of Frankeinstein with you all. I have listed them not in the order they appear in the novel, but rather I have composed a short tale of my own using their existence...

“There is something at work in my soul, which I do not understand.”
“It was the secrets of heaven and earth that I desired to learn;”

“From the tortures of my own heart,”

“but I was the slave…of an impulse, which I detested, yet could not disobey.”

“I desire the company of a man who could sympathise with me;”
“At these moments I wept bitterly, and wished that peace would revisit my mind”

“Thus spoke my prophetic soul,”

“but my hopes fluctuate, and my spirits are  often depressed.”

“I wandered like an evil spirit, for I had committed deeds of mischief beyond description”

“Polluted by crimes, and torn by the bitterest remorse, where can I find rest but in death?”

“How shall I ever again believe in human goodness?”

“I shall die. I shall no longer feel the agonies which now consume me, or be the prey of feelings unsatisfied, yet unquenched.”

“I do not fear to die…God raises my weakness and gives me courage to endure the worst. I leave a sad and bitter world;”
“I have written myself into better spirits,”

“more, far more, will I achieve:”

“Heaven shower down blessings on you, and save me, that I may again and again testify my gratitude for all your love and kindness.”

“Remember me with affection, should you never hear from me again.”
